Welcome to the Strafford Scouts Training Page!

2009 Unit of Honor & Quality Unit

A key factor in the success of any Troop is the training of it's leaders.  Both Boys and Adults need to be trained in order to know their roles and responsibilities and to have the tools to execute those roles and responsibilities and to maintain a BSA safe environment.  There are to views of training; Promote/Train or Train/Promote.  Troop 23 ascribes to the Train/Promote philosophy and as such requires key leaders to attend training before they ascend to leadership.

Scout Training required positions are:

bullet Senior Patrol Leader - attend council run NYLT (National Youth Leader Training).  This is a week long program run by the Daniel Webster Council week 1 each summer at Camp Bell.  To promote this training the Troop 23 Committee gives a campership each summer to a deserving scout that applies.
bulletPatrol Leader - Each Patrol leader must be a 1st Class Scout that has attended either JLT (Junior Leader Training) or the new TLT (Troop Leader Training).
