Den, Patrol & Crew Information
What’s New?: This year’s Hike-A-Volcano-A-Thon is different from any other Hike-A-Thon! It is designed as a patrol and den oriented hike. Throughout the hike Scouts will participate at multiple stations which will challenge scouts to use their scout skills and work as a team. There will be an empathies on Map & Compass for Patrols and Crews and Geology for Dens, but other skills will be covered.
What to bring: All Scouts are expected to bring their Scout Essentials (found on page 207 in the Scout Handbook), 2 quarts of water (about two Nalgene bottles), and their Scout Spirit! (Dens and WEBOLOS Patrols will need to adjust the Scout Essentials to be appropriate for those Scouts, for example: pocket knives and matches might be carried by a WEBELOS or Bear Leader and not carried at all by Tigers and Wolf leaders.)
What to wear: During this hike there will be sections of hiking on mountains, roads and through the forest. The terrain and the conditions will vary. Scouts should be prepared for the weather and outdoors. A good sturdy pair of hiking boots is ideal for this hike. Please remember Scouting is outing, dress appropriately for being in the outdoors.
