I was a scout through grade school and high school until I turned 18. For me, scouting was a time of education, service, character formation, and great fun in the outdoors with my father and my friends. During this time I sought to abide by the Scout Oath and the Scout law. Merit badges that I earned as a scout introduced me to new activities and ideas. First aid skills that I learned as a scout have been useful to this day. During my scouting career I served for a time as Chaplain Aid, a position of leadership that helped me later serve in different positions of ministry in my church. In addition to the many other steps on the trail to Eagle, my Eagle service project challenged me to rise to a new position of leadership in the service of my community in order to complete the task of clearing brush around the athletic fields and playgrounds at Strafford School, and building six new picnic tables for the School. In 2006 I graduated from Gordon College (Wenham, MA) with a BA, where I double-majored in Biblical and Theological Studies and Art. I also got married in 2006 and enrolled as a student at St Vladimir's Seminary (Crestwood, NY) where I hope to graduate with an MDiv (Master of Divinity) degree in 2009. I look back on my years in the Boy Scouts not only as a time of great fun and adventure, but as a valuable time of education and character formation that has helped me become who I am today.
